During this pandemic while business has slowed, I took time to catch up and also to spend more time with family. However, it is important that I continue to stay sharp and hone my skills.
So I decided to give myself an assignment. I took my Sony a6500 with me on a 20 mile bike ride through my community. My assignment was to photograph colorful objects.
This time of year, wild flowers are in bloom, so it wasn’t hard to find subjects. The difficult part was taking the time to stop, get off the bike and shoot. What should’ve been a 90 minute ride turned into a 2 ½ hour trek.
During my ride, there were times that some wildlife caught my eye, so I did not limit myself to capturing flowers, just things that interested me.
It is important, in my opinion to have discipline when carrying out a self-assignment. This is for you and no one else. You can be as creative and selective as you want to be.
In fulfilling these self assignments, I am being accountable to myself by improving my skills and staying sharp for my clients. More importantly, I am documenting life’s moments. Everything we photograph today, may be gone tomorrow, but it is captured forever by our cameras to be shared with whomever we wish to see it. I plan to assign myself at least one assignment per month. Stay tuned.
Remember, when opportunities arise, take your best shot!
